Floral Grey Baby Wearing Change Bag

The latest commission is now complete, just ready to add a little surprise gift and pack it up for posting.  This baby change bag was commissioned by a loving Grandma who cant wait for the new baby to come along.  Mum had requested a grey bag, I am not sure whether it is to match a transport solution or to fit with a professional lifestyle.  Grandma had requested something floral and girly with embroidery.  Mum is planning on using washable cloth nappies but is unsure whether baby wearing would be a priority or an option.  Therefore the change bag was designed with the following features.

After searching for the right fabric chose this smart grey pinstripe which was soft enough to drape for the pleated design but very practical. The two large external pockets can hold bottles or other items.  The soft concealed zippered security pocket on the rear can keep items safe such as mums purse or cards.  This bag has a single long soft handle, soft enough to wear next to baby and long enough tomwear cross the body and go over buggy.

Inside the bag has floral cotton lining with two large expandable pockets for cloth nappies, enough space for several changes of clothes and a smaller pocket for essentials.  The dedicated Mobile phone pocket is located close to the top at the side so it is easy to find when you get a call.  Specific locating tags are incorporated to attach keys, the carabiner makes it easy to store baby dummies or favorite teether toy.

The top cover of the bag is embroidered with small daisy and rosebud flowers and fastens with a magnetic clasp.

What baby wearing bag will you choose?

When you find out you are expecing a baby, all sorts of things are on your mind.  From decorating the nursery and choosing what sort of buggy transport will suit your family.  To deciding if you will breast feed and use washable cloth nappies.

I used cloth nappies for my three children, not because they were as nice as they are now, but as my children are now having their own children, washable cloth nappies were the only affordable choice in back then.  When disposable nappies first came out, I remember being quite upset when I had bought an expensive pack to use for a special day out and baby dirtied the nappy straight away.  I was much happier with my washable cloth nappies.

Attachment parenting techniques are being promoted to create a stong bond between mum and baby,  Many mums choose to breast feed and use washable nappies.  Many mums also choose to wear their baby with a baby carrier or sling.  Baby wearing slings are used all over the world to keep a baby safely snuggled up to mum.  But if you are wearing your baby, have you thought to what sort of baby change bag you will need?

Many baby change bags on the market are designed to go over the buggy, be hauled about by dad or packed into the back of a car.  Some have features such as adjustable straps which are advertised for baby wearing.  But look again and really consider how those designs will work with you and your baby.  Many bags have metal D rings or strap attachments on the outside of the bag.  Some have strong webbing straps which can be rough on mums neck and baby’s skin.

When you choose a Scapdragon artisan baby change bag or one of our Wrapbags specificlaly designed for baby wearing, you can be assured that the whole bag is made from soft squishy fabric soft for mums skin as well as babies.  All have been through rigourous design test from mums wearing babies and designs have been tweaked based on their feedback.  Therefore we do not use hard metal or rough items on the outside of the bag which could accidentally scratch or harm baby.  Here are a list of the common features of all Scrapdragon bags.

  • Soft styling means no hard edges around the bag but still strong enough with internal reinforcements to carry loads.
  • Soft squishy handles which can be worn next to baby with safety,  either wrapped around, over the shoulder and long enough to hang over the buggy handles.
  • Generous outside pockets to hold formula bottles, baby snacks but large enough for mums take away coffee as well.
  • Concealed zipped security pocket in the rear of the bag to keep items safe.
  • Large internal pockets to hold wipes, creams and enough washable nappies for the day.
  • An internal pocket to keep smaller items secure.
  • A dedicated  mobile phone pocket on the inside but close at hand to find quickly.
  • Internal placeholders to keep smaller items attached such as keys, babies dummy or favorite toy.
  • Our bags are large enough to be used for cloth nappies, several changes of clothes and even store a baby sling.
  • in addition to all of the above, the Scrapdragon bags are all unique with choice of fabrics and personalised designs.

Just because it is made at my home, it is not ‘homemade’.  The majority of artisan crafters provide better quality designs and quality assembly techniques than large third world factories.  Keep it Unique, Keep it British and Keep it Local.

Scapdragon is proud to support Hartlepool Attachment Parenting group with their @Real Nappy Week #realnappyweek by providing a unique baby change bag prize.

Designs spotted!

This weekend was my Granddaughter Daisy’s 4th Birthday party.  I cant believe its only four years since she was born and since then we have the three Grandsons  come along as well.

At her party, there were several families who had travelled up the country to celebrate Daisy’s birthday.  Amongst the items I spotted, were two of my bag designs.  As each one is unique, I cant spot the bags anywhere!  I saw one under the table jam packed full of three changes of clothes for two shildren and a baby sling.  The other was a little less packed as it was only catering for the one child.  But it was good to see them being well used and holding up to the wear and tear of family live.

So even over a year on, they still look good and are more then just a baby change bag, they ahve become part of family life.

The Black Skull ToteAll Change bag has red satin trim and lining with large soft padded handles to go over the buggy and is soft and comfy enough for mummy to carry and enough pockets for everything!

DoggyWrapbagThe Brown WrapBag baby change bag has the funky blue/green lining.  The design has a messenger style cover and extra long wrap handles so that it can wrap around mummy and tie at the waist, be used as a backpack or go over a buggy.  the versitility of this bag is used for baby wearing mums.  This one was filled with a sling and three changes for two children!  It may have been stuffed to the limits but it was obviously well loved.

Sewing Machine Bag

Sewing machine bag

My lovely Janome has a slight problem with the internal light fitting.  As its still under the warranty, I have to send it back to the shop for a repair.  The lovely man Duke from http://www.sewingmachine-sales.co.uk/ told me to pack it up in the original box and it would be collected from home and delivered back once it was done.  Fantastic service I thought.  But there was one problem.  The original packing box was so big, it took over the back bedroom so it went to the recyling.  The pretty black cover which Janome supplied is lovely as a cover but not realy protective for the machine,  so I decided to make my own carry bag to protect the machine on its trip in the van.

Hubby had ‘found’ a large roll of what seems to be 3mm thick heavy interfacing.  I used some vintage curtains from my stash and created a bag shape with velcro top closure.  The machine can be lowered into the bag and where the base is larger than the top, I threaded some pretty ribbon through the sides and used it to pull up to size.  This means that the Machine handle is still accessible to carry the heavy machine but the pretty padded bag protects all screens and acessories.

I think the vintage look is growing on me!  Practical and pretty.
